Diagnostics & Auto Electrics from our Hebburn workshop

Modern cars are full of electronics, and a fault can show up in strange ways: a warning light that comes and goes, a car that will not start on a cold morning, windows that stop working or sensors that misbehave. A code reader alone is not enough; it takes testing and experience to find the real fault.

Banks of the Tyne Motor Co carries out full vehicle diagnostics, engine-management and warning-light diagnostics, electrical fault finding, wiring repairs, batteries, alternators, starter motors, sensors, reversing cameras, dash cameras, parking sensors, alarms and immobilisers from our Hebburn workshop for drivers across Tyne and Wear.

What we cover

Specific services

Full vehicle diagnostics

Full vehicle diagnostics read the fault codes stored across the car's control units and use them as a starting point for testing. We look at the systems that are reporting problems, and the ones that might be causing them, and explain what we have found.

Engine-management diagnostics

Engine-management diagnostics investigate poor running, stalling, hesitation, high fuel use and the engine management warning light. Sensors, fuel, ignition and air supply are tested to find the actual cause.

Warning-light diagnostics

Warning-light diagnostics find out why lights such as engine, ABS, airbag or tyre pressure have come on. An amber light is a prompt to have the car checked, and a red light often means stop safely and call for help.

Electrical fault finding

Electrical fault finding traces issues that are not straightforward, such as intermittent faults, drains on the battery and failing switches. It takes systematic testing of circuits, connectors and earths, which is why we do not rush it.

Wiring repairs

Wiring repairs fix damaged, corroded or chafed wiring and poor connectors that cause intermittent faults. We repair wiring properly rather than using temporary fixes.

Batteries

Battery testing and replacement deal with cars that struggle to start, especially in cold weather. We test the battery and charging system before replacing it, and make sure the new one is suited to your vehicle, including stop-start types.

Alternators

Alternator repairs and replacement address charging faults, such as a battery warning light, dim lights and a battery that keeps going flat. We test the charging output to confirm the alternator is at fault.

Starter motors

Starter motor faults cause clicking, slow cranking or a car that does not start. We test the starter, battery and connections to find which part has failed, and replace or repair the starter as needed.

Sensors

Sensor replacement covers the many sensors that feed information to the engine and safety systems, such as crank, cam, oxygen and wheel-speed sensors. A faulty sensor can trigger warning lights and poor running.

Reversing cameras

Reversing camera fitting and repair add or fix the rear-view camera on your vehicle. We fit and wire the camera neatly and check the image and any guidelines work properly.

Dash cameras

Dash camera fitting installs a dash cam with tidy, hidden wiring so it is powered correctly and does not drain the battery. We can talk through the options for your vehicle.

Parking sensors

Parking sensors fitted or repaired help you judge distance when parking. We fit them neatly, check they respond correctly and look at faulty sensors that give false readings.

Alarms

Alarm fitting and repair cover vehicle alarms that have stopped working or go off for no reason. We trace the cause, which is often a faulty sensor, switch or low battery, and put it right.

Immobilisers

Immobiliser faults can stop a car from starting even when the battery and starter are fine. We diagnose immobiliser and key-related issues and explain what is needed.

Why choose us for diagnostics & auto electrics

Testing, not guessing

We trace the cause of a fault rather than replacing parts and hoping.

Diagnostics linked to repairs

When we find the fault we can fix it, whether it is mechanical, electrical or body-related.

Accessories fitted properly

  2. Diagnose

We scan the vehicle, test circuits and components and confirm the fault.

  3. Repair

We explain what we have found, give you a free quote and carry out the repair.

  4. Test and clear

We test the vehicle, clear stored faults and check the warning lights stay off.

Diagnostics & Auto Electrics FAQs

What does the engine warning light mean?

It means the engine management system has detected a fault. Steady amber means have it checked soon; flashing or red means stop safely and seek help.

Why will my car not start?

Common causes are a flat battery, a failed starter motor, an alternator problem or an immobiliser fault. We test to find which.

Can you find intermittent electrical faults?

Yes, though they take patience. We test circuits, connectors and earths systematically to trace the fault.

How do I know if my battery needs replacing?

Slow starts, warning lights, dim headlights and a battery that is more than a few years old are signs. We can test it before you buy.

Can you fit a dash cam or reversing camera?

Yes, we fit dash cameras, reversing cameras and parking sensors with neat wiring.

Why is my parking sensor beeping all the time?

It may be dirty, damaged or faulty, or have a wiring problem. We check it and repair or replace.

Can you fix a faulty alarm or immobiliser?

Yes. We diagnose alarms and immobilisers and repair what is needed. Tell us about the make, model and symptoms.

Will the warning light go off after repair?

Once the cause is fixed we clear stored fault codes and test the vehicle to confirm the light stays off.
