Full Vehicle Diagnostics in Tyne and Wear
A full scan checks every control module in the car, not just the engine, and gives a complete picture of what is stored and what needs investigating.

A modern car carries many control modules covering the engine, gearbox, brakes, airbags, steering, lighting, climate control and more. Each can store its own fault codes, and many faults never trigger a dashboard light.
At Banks of the Tyne in Hebburn a full vehicle diagnostic means scanning across those systems, then reading the results sensibly. This page covers the whole-car scan, while warning lights, sensors and electrical faults have their own pages.
Why a full scan helps
A basic engine code reader only sees part of the picture. A fault in one system can cause symptoms in another, and a full scan shows the links.
- Several warning lights on at once
- A fault that has no light but a noticeable symptom
- Buying a used car and wanting to know its history
- Work done previously where faults may remain stored
- Problems after a battery change or repair
What the job involves
We connect professional diagnostic equipment and read the fault memory from each module, along with live data where it is relevant. We note which codes are current and which are historic, and which look like consequences of another fault.
A code is a starting point, not a verdict. A sensor code might mean the sensor, its wiring or a problem it is reporting accurately. We test further to establish which, so we recommend the right repair.
What affects the outcome
Coverage varies by make, model and age. Older cars have fewer modules, and some manufacturer functions need specific software. We tell you what we can and cannot read.
Intermittent faults are harder, because the fault may not be present during the test. Information from you helps, including when it happens and what you were doing at the time.
After the scan
You should get a plain explanation of what was found, what matters and what can wait. Safety-related faults, such as brake, airbag or steering warnings, deserve prompt attention and you should not drive the car if a safety warning suggests a serious fault.
Ask us what the next step is, whether further testing or repair, and have it explained before you agree to work.
In short: A full scan shows the whole car, not just the engine. Bring it to Banks of the Tyne in Hebburn and we will explain what the car is telling us.
Full Vehicle Diagnostics: FAQs
Is a full diagnostic the same as plugging in a code reader?
No. A basic reader typically covers engine and emissions only. A full scan reads many more modules and gives live data.
Will it tell me exactly what is broken?
It points us in the right direction. Further testing is often needed to confirm the faulty part.
Can you clear the codes afterwards?
We can, but only after the cause is dealt with. Clearing alone hides the symptom and the fault will usually return.
Do I need a scan before buying a used car?
It can show stored faults and problems that are not obvious on a test drive. It is not a substitute for a full inspection.
Can you scan any car?
Most, but coverage varies. Tell us the make, model and year and we will say what we can read.
