Vehicle Glass & Mirrors from our Hebburn workshop
A small chip in a windscreen can spread into a crack, especially with a frosty morning or a bump over a pothole. Mirrors get knocked on narrow streets, and side windows get broken in break-ins. Glass and mirror damage needs sorting quickly, both for safety and for a clear view of the road.
Banks of the Tyne Motor Co offers windscreen repairs, windscreen replacement, windscreen chip repairs, side and rear glass replacement and mirror repairs, including wing mirrors, for drivers across Tyne and Wear. Glass problems are often linked to other damage, so as a one-stop motor centre we can look at the whole picture.

Windscreen repairs treat small chips and short cracks by cleaning the damage and filling it with resin, which restores strength and stops it spreading. Repair is only suitable if the damage is small, clean and outside the driver's main line of sight.
Windscreen replacement

Windscreen replacement is needed when damage is too large, too close to the edge or in the driver's direct view. The old screen is removed, the frame prepared and a new screen bonded in. Cameras and sensors behind the glass may need to be considered.
Windscreen chip repairs
Windscreen chip repairs focus on stone chips before they turn into cracks. Dirt and moisture get into a chip quickly, so the sooner you have it looked at, the better the repair tends to be.
Side and rear glass replacement
Side and rear glass replacement deals with smashed windows, often after a break-in. Broken glass is cleared from the door, trim and cabin, and new glass is fitted. Rear screens may have heating elements, which we check after fitting.
Wing mirror and mirror repairs

Wing mirror and mirror repairs cover broken mirror glass, cracked housings, loose covers and damaged electric mirrors. Depending on the vehicle, we can replace just the glass or housing, or fit a complete mirror unit.
Why choose us for vehicle glass & mirrors
Chips caught early
A small chip repaired quickly is far less likely to crack across the screen.
Safety and MOT in mind
Damage in the driver's line of sight can be an MOT problem as well as a safety one, so we look at it properly.
Bodywork and glass together
If glass was damaged in an accident or break-in, bodywork and trim repairs can be handled in the same place.
How it works
Assess the damage
We look at size, position and type of damage to see whether repair or replacement is appropriate.
Repair or replace
Chips are filled with resin; larger damage means replacement glass or a new mirror unit.
Clean up
Glass fragments and debris are removed from the car and the area is left tidy.
Final checks
We check visibility, electrics and any heating elements or sensors before handing the car back.

Vehicle Glass & Mirrors FAQs
Can a chip in my windscreen be repaired?
Often yes, if it is small, clean and not in the driver's direct line of sight. The sooner it is looked at, the better, as dirt and moisture reduce repair quality.
When does a windscreen need replacing?
When damage is too large, a crack runs across the screen or the damage is in the driver's main view. We will advise you after an inspection.
Is a cracked windscreen an MOT failure?
It can be, particularly if the damage is in the driver's view. Rules are detailed, so have it looked at before your MOT rather than waiting.
Can you replace a broken wing mirror?
Yes. Depending on the car, we can replace the mirror glass, the cover or the whole mirror unit. Electric and heated mirrors need checking after fitting.
Can you replace side and rear windows?
Yes, we replace side and rear glass, including after break-ins. We clean up glass in the door and cabin as part of the job.
What should I do if my windscreen cracks in cold weather?
Avoid pouring hot water on it, as sudden temperature change can spread a crack. Use gentle heat from the demister and have the damage checked.
Can you help if the glass was broken in an accident?
Yes. We also repair accident damage to bodywork and trim, so the glass and the rest of the repair can be handled in one place.
Do I need an appointment?
The easiest way is to send us the details by the enquiry form or WhatsApp, with photos of the damage, and we will let you know what we need.
