Alloy Wheel Repairs & Refurbishment in Tyne and Wear
Kerbed, corroded or tired alloys put right: alloy wheel repairs, refurbishment, painting and wheel straightening at our Hebburn workshop.

Alloy Wheel Repairs & Refurbishment from our Hebburn workshop
Alloy wheels take a lot of punishment: kerbs, potholes, brake dust and winter road salt all attack the finish. Left alone, scuffs turn into corrosion, lacquer peels, and bubbling paint spreads from chips. Putting them right is usually far more sensible than replacing a full set.
Banks of the Tyne Motor Co offers alloy wheel repairs, alloy wheel refurbishment, alloy wheel painting and wheel straightening for cars and vans across Tyne and Wear. Because we also fit tyres and balance wheels, the job is finished properly, with the wheels back on the vehicle and running true.

Alloy wheel repairs fix localised damage such as kerb scuffs, gouges and scrapes. The damaged area is filled and shaped, then refinished to match the rest of the wheel. They are a good option when the wheel is structurally sound and the damage is cosmetic.
Alloy wheel refurbishment

Alloy wheel refurbishment restores the whole wheel. The tyre is removed, the old finish stripped, damage repaired, then the wheel is primed, painted and lacquered before the tyre is refitted and the wheel balanced. It is the answer for wheels with several damaged spokes or widespread peeling and corrosion.
Alloy wheel painting
Alloy wheel painting refinishes your wheels in a colour of your choice, whether you want to match the original silver or change to gloss black, gunmetal or another finish. Proper preparation and lacquer are what make the finish last.
Wheel straightening
Wheel straightening corrects wheels that have been bent by potholes or kerbs, which often show up as a steering-wheel vibration at speed. We inspect the wheel first, because a cracked wheel cannot be safely straightened and would need replacing.
Why choose us for alloy wheel repairs & refurbishment
Repair before replace
A refurbished wheel is often a sensible alternative to buying new, especially for larger or less common wheel designs.
Tyres and balancing on site
Wheels can be removed, repaired, refitted and balanced in the same workshop.
Straightening for pothole damage
If a wheel has been bent by a pothole or kerb, we can look at straightening it rather than automatically replacing it.
How it works
Inspect the wheel
We check the extent of damage, look for cracks and bends and recommend repair, refurbishment or replacement.
Strip and repair
Old paint and lacquer are removed, damage is filled and shaped, and corrosion is treated.
Refinish
The wheel is primed, painted in the chosen colour and lacquered for protection.
Refit and balance
The tyre is refitted and the wheel balanced before it goes back on your vehicle.

Alloy Wheel Repairs & Refurbishment FAQs
Can kerbed alloys be repaired?
In most cases, yes. Scuffs, scrapes and gouges can usually be filled and refinished, provided the wheel is not cracked or badly bent.
What is alloy wheel refurbishment?
It is a full restoration of the wheel: stripping the old finish, repairing damage, repainting and lacquering, then refitting the tyre and balancing the wheel.
Can you straighten a bent alloy wheel?
Often, yes. A wheel bent by a pothole can sometimes be straightened. We inspect it first, and a cracked wheel is not safe to repair and must be replaced.
Can I change the colour of my alloys?
Yes. We can paint alloys in a range of finishes, such as silver, gloss black or gunmetal. Proper preparation and lacquer are important so the finish lasts.
Why is my steering wheel shaking at speed?
Vibration can come from an unbalanced or bent wheel, a worn tyre or other suspension issues. Bring the car to us and we will diagnose the cause and correct it.
Do alloy wheels need to be removed from the car?
For a proper refurbishment, yes. The wheel and tyre need to come off so the tyre can be removed and the wheel stripped, repaired and repainted.
Is refurbishing better than buying new wheels?
It depends on the damage and the wheel. Refurbishing is often a sensible choice, but if a wheel is cracked or beyond repair, replacement is the safe option. We will advise you honestly.
Can you refurbish alloys for vans as well?
Yes, we can look at alloys for cars and vans. Send us a photo and the wheel size and we will tell you what is possible.
