Tyres & Wheel Alignment in Tyne and Wear
New tyres, tyre fitting, puncture repairs, wheel balancing, tracking and four-wheel alignment at our Hebburn workshop.

Tyres & Wheel Alignment from our Hebburn workshop
Your tyres are the only part of the car in contact with the road, so their condition affects braking, handling and safety. Uneven wear, a steering wheel that shakes or a car that pulls to one side are all signs worth checking.
Banks of the Tyne Motor Co supplies and fits new tyres, repairs punctures and carries out wheel balancing, tracking and four-wheel alignment for drivers across Tyne and Wear. We can also look at suspension and steering if worn parts are causing the wear.

Tyre fitting

Tyre fitting covers removing the old tyre, fitting the new one, setting the pressure and balancing the wheel. A properly fitted and balanced tyre runs smoothly and wears evenly.
Puncture repairs
Puncture repairs can be done when the damage is in the repairable area of the tread. Sidewall damage and large holes mean a replacement tyre. We inspect the tyre inside and out before deciding.
Wheel balancing
Wheel balancing adds small weights so the wheel and tyre spin evenly. An unbalanced wheel can cause steering-wheel vibration at certain speeds and uneven wear.
Tracking

Tracking adjusts the angle of the wheels so they point in the right direction. Poor tracking causes tyre wear, a crooked steering wheel and a car that wanders.
Four-wheel alignment
Four-wheel alignment checks and adjusts all four wheels relative to each other and to the car's centreline. It suits vehicles with adjustable rear suspension, or after suspension work, and helps keep the car handling straight.

Tyres & Wheel Alignment FAQs
How do I check my tyre tread?
The legal minimum for cars is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread. Use a tread depth gauge, and replace tyres before they reach the limit.
Can a puncture be repaired?
Often, yes, if the damage is in the repairable part of the tread. Sidewall damage cannot be safely repaired and the tyre needs replacing.
What is the difference between balancing and tracking?
Balancing evens out weight distribution in the wheel and tyre. Tracking sets the angle of the wheels. Vibration points to balance, pulling points to tracking.
Why are my tyres wearing on the inside edge?
It is often caused by incorrect alignment or worn suspension parts. We check and correct the cause so new tyres do not wear out the same way.
Do I need four-wheel alignment?
It is useful after suspension repairs, if the car pulls or has uneven wear, and on vehicles with adjustable rear suspension. We will advise.
How old is too old for tyres?
Tyres age even when not used much. Check the date code on the sidewall, and have older tyres inspected for cracking and hardening.
Can you supply different brands of tyre?
Yes. Tell us what you need and we can discuss the options, from budget to premium, and what suits your driving.
Do I need to rebalance after a puncture repair?
It is good practice, as a repaired tyre and refitted wheel should be balanced to run smoothly.
