MOT Testing in Tyne and Wear
MOT testing for cars and vans (Classes 4, 5 and 7), plus MOT preparation and repairs for any failure, all at our Hebburn workshop.

MOT Testing from our Hebburn workshop
An MOT is a legal check that your vehicle meets minimum road safety and environmental standards on the day of the test. Failing is not unusual, and a fail with the repairs done on the spot is far easier than a trip to another garage.
Banks of the Tyne Motor Co offers MOT testing for Class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles, together with MOT preparation, MOT repairs, MOT failure repairs and pre-MOT inspections from our Hebburn workshop, serving drivers across Tyne and Wear. If your vehicle needs work, we can carry it out and retest.
What we cover
Specific services

A check of your vehicle against common MOT failure points before the real test, so problems can be sorted first.
View service →MOT testing (Class 4, 5 and 7)
MOT testing is the annual roadworthiness check required for most vehicles over three years old. We test Class 4 vehicles such as cars and small vans, Class 5 passenger vehicles with larger seating and Class 7 goods vehicles, depending on the vehicle's weight.
MOT preparation

MOT preparation looks at the things that commonly cause failures, such as lights, tyres, wipers, brakes and visibility, so they can be sorted before the test. Many failures are simple items that are easy to fix.
MOT repairs
MOT repairs cover the work needed to get your vehicle through its test, from replacing bulbs and wipers to brakes, suspension and exhaust repairs.
MOT failure repairs
MOT failure repairs deal with the issues listed on a failed MOT certificate. We go through the defects with you, explain what is needed and repair them so the vehicle can be retested.
Pre-MOT inspections

Pre-MOT inspections are a check of the main test items before the official test, so any problems are known in advance. They are useful for older vehicles or if you are unsure of the car's condition.

MOT Testing FAQs
What is checked in an MOT?
Lights, brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, exhaust and emissions, bodywork, seat belts and visibility are among the items checked. It is a test of roadworthiness, not a service.
Which MOT classes do you test?
We test Class 4 (cars and small vans), Class 5 (passenger vehicles with larger seating) and Class 7 (goods vehicles over 3,000kg up to 3,500kg).
How early can I get my MOT done?
You can usually have it done up to a month, minus a day, before expiry and keep the same renewal date. Check the current official guidance when you book.
What happens if my car fails its MOT?
The failure certificate lists the defects. We can explain them, repair them and retest. Dangerous defects mean the vehicle should not be driven.
Can you repair my car and retest it?
Yes. We offer MOT failure repairs and can retest your vehicle after the work.
What are common MOT failures?
Bulbs, tyres, wipers and washers, brakes and suspension components are among the most common reasons for failure.
Do you offer a check before the MOT?
Yes. A pre-MOT inspection looks at the main items so you know what to expect.
Can I get an MOT and service together?
Yes. Many customers combine the two. Ask us when you book and we will explain the difference between an MOT and a service.
