Vehicle Health Checks in Tyne and Wear

A health check looks over the car and reports back. It is for spotting problems early and planning ahead.

A vehicle health check is an inspection rather than a maintenance job. Nothing is replaced as part of it; the aim is to see how the car is doing and tell you what you need to know.

It suits drivers who want reassurance before a long trip, anyone who has noticed something slightly off, and owners who want to plan spending rather than be caught out. At Banks of the Tyne in Hebburn we keep the report plain and prioritised.

What gets looked at

The check normally covers the areas that matter most for safety and reliability: tyres and their condition, brakes where visible, lights, wipers, fluid levels, battery, and a look beneath for leaks or damage. Suspension, steering and exhaust components are inspected for wear and play.

Exactly how much is covered depends on what you book, so ask us what is included for your car.

  • Tyre condition and wear
  • Brake components where visible
  • Lights, wipers and screenwash
  • Fluids, leaks and battery
  • Suspension, steering and exhaust

How findings are reported

The point of a check is the report. We group what we find into things that need attention now, things worth watching and things that are fine, and explain why. If something is a safety concern, we say so clearly.

You are not obliged to have any repairs done with us. The findings are yours to use as you see fit.

What affects the outcome

A health check shows condition at the time of inspection. It cannot predict every failure, and some faults, such as intermittent electrical problems, need separate diagnosis. Access matters too, because some parts are hidden until panels or wheels come off.

If we find something that needs a closer look, we explain what further investigation involves and agree it before going ahead.

How it differs from a service or an MOT

A service replaces oil and parts. An MOT is a legal minimum check on one day. A health check sits between the two as an opinion on condition. It does not replace either, and it does not certify the car as roadworthy.

In short: A health check gives you facts about your car without commitment. Ask what is included and we will explain the report in plain terms.

Vehicle Health Checks: FAQs

Is a health check the same as an MOT?

No. The MOT is a legal test with set criteria. A health check is a broader look at condition that helps you plan maintenance.

When is a health check worth having?

Before a long journey, when you buy a used car, after a spell of not using the car, or if you simply want to know where you stand.

Do you fix things during the check?

The check itself is an inspection. If it finds anything, we discuss options and agree work with you separately.

Does it include a road test?

Ask us what is included in the check for your vehicle so you know what to expect.

Can it find every fault?

No inspection can. It reports what is visible and measurable at the time. Intermittent or hidden faults may need further diagnosis.
