Car Servicing & Maintenance

Full Servicing in Tyne and Wear

A full service is the comprehensive yearly option: fluids, filters and a methodical inspection of the whole car.

Where an interim service focuses on oil and key checks, a full service goes wider. It renews the main consumable items and works through a longer inspection list, looking at the engine, brakes, suspension, steering, tyres, lights and more.

At Banks of the Tyne in Hebburn we treat it as the car's regular health reset: replace what is due, inspect what is not, and give you a clear picture of what is coming next.

What is usually included

The exact list varies by vehicle, but a full service generally covers an oil and oil filter change, a new air filter and an inspection of the fuel and pollen filters, with replacement where they are due. Fluid levels are checked and topped up where needed.

The inspection then works around the car: brake pads, discs and pipes where visible, suspension and steering joints, tyre wear and condition, exhaust, battery, belts, hoses and lights.

  • Oil and oil filter
  • Air filter, and others as due
  • Brake, steering and suspension inspection
  • Tyre, light and battery checks
  • Fluid levels and leak check

Why the wider inspection matters

Most expensive failures give warning signs first. A split gaiter, a weeping seal, a perished hose or an unevenly worn tyre is far easier to deal with when it is spotted early. The inspection is where a full service earns its keep, because it puts a trained pair of eyes over parts you rarely see.

We report what we find in plain terms: what needs attention now, what can wait and what to keep an eye on.

What affects the outcome and cost

Cost depends on the vehicle, its engine and the parts that fall due. A larger engine holds more oil, some cars have awkward filter locations, and certain parts, such as spark plugs on some engines, are replaced at set intervals rather than every time.

Because every car is different, we explain what is included and what is extra at the estimate stage, before work begins.

Choosing the right level of service

If your car follows a manufacturer schedule, or has gone a long time since its last service, a major or manufacturer-schedule service might be more appropriate. We are happy to talk through which one suits the age, mileage and history of your car rather than simply sell the biggest option.

In short: A full service is the thorough yearly reset for your car. Tell us the make, age and mileage and we will explain what it should include.

Full Servicing: FAQs

How often does a car need a full service?

The usual guidance is about once a year or at the mileage interval in your handbook, whichever suits your driving. Your manufacturer's recommendation is the right starting point.

Is a full service the same as an MOT?

No. The MOT is a legal roadworthiness check on the day. A full service is maintenance, designed to keep the car reliable and spot wear early.

Do I need a full service every time?

Not necessarily. Many drivers alternate between interim and full services, depending on mileage. Ask us and we will suggest what makes sense for your car.

Will you fix problems you find?

We will show you what we find and agree any extra work with you first. Nothing beyond the estimate goes ahead without your approval.

Can you service any make of car?

Ask us about your specific make and model. Some newer or specialist vehicles have particular requirements, and we will tell you plainly what we can do.
